Getting the help you need with the Tax Return Calculator
To ease the stress around preparing tax returns, the Internal Revenue Service offers a do it yourself withholding calculator that you can use to check your tax returns to make sure they are done right.
This free computer program is accessible online at the Internal Revenue Service website. While the calculator program is not a replacement for your tax form W-4, it will help you determine if you have had too much or too little withheld from you pay.
Here’s what you need to use the Tax Return Calculator:
1. Current pay stub.
2. Recent income tax return.
3. Answer all questions that apply to you.
4. Estimate values, your end result depends on your accuracy.
5.There are links embedded in the program, so if you have any questions,
don’t be afraid to use them.
6. When you’re finished, be sure to print out the results. You
can use them to compare to your Form W-4. If there are any mistakes
you can fill out a new form.
7. Be sure to keep these for your records.
Here’s who can benefit from using this program:
1. Any employee wanting to change their withholdings
to cut down their tax refund or their balance.
2. Employees whose state of affairs are only approximated by the worksheets
on the W-4 (example: if you have a current job, couples that both hold
jobs, filing as Head of Household, if you have children and are eligible
for the Child Tax Credit.
3. If you’re an employee with a non-wage income in excess of your
adjustments and deductions and would like to have tax on your income
withheld form your paycheck rather than making a occasional payment
through the estimated tax operation.
The IRS calculator is not the only one around. There are many online Tax Return Calculators available for your use. Many of the e-file services offer this added feature to help you prepare your online tax returns.
You do not need to aorry about confidentiality issues as it is noted on the Internal Revenue Website that all information that you enter will remain anonymous except for the purpose of calculating the form. After you are finished using the program, any information that you have entered will not be shared, stored, or used for any other purpose and will be deleted as soon as you exit the program.
The Tax Return Calculator makes the process of tax returns easier.
